Thing #23

My favorite discoveries had to be with Flickr and photo editing tools. I found my self spending hours using these tools. I also really enjoyed updating my blog with the 23 Things.

This program affected my lifelong learning goals by forcing me to finishing learning new things in a short time I have learned to manage my time better so I reach the deadline when needed. I would have finished before Christmas except I took a really long break.

My biggest unexpected outcome that surprised me the most is how many of the tools I already use. On thing #20 you had use look at a list of other online tools and I found that I already use some of them, this program had me use some that I wouldn't have tried on my own.

Not really sure what I would have you improve on. I really liked the program and if offered again I would do it again.

Thank you to the staff for putting this program together.

Thing #22

Popcast are very interesting. I don't know how much time I will spend with them. I like that fact that they can go on my RSS reader. I looked at different Podcast and didn't find one that I could use right away so I think I'll wait a while so I can spend more time looking at a later date. I just think it's another thing I could get way to much information in one place.

Thing #21

I really enjoy using YouTube. I have family and friends that use it alot and they are always sending me something to checkout. I decided to look for a video on G.ho.st because I was to learn more about it. So this is the one I chose.

Thing #20

I chose G.ho.st. I think I like this sight. I would need to experiment with it more. Some of the things I like were all of my e-mail and Google docs are right there. I have 5gig of storage space and you can add another gig for each person that signs up and gives you as a reference. I can have the same desktop for whichever computer I am using so everything I use is right there. G.ho.st was kind of slow working in Firefox so I had to try it a couple of times to get it to work. Another issue I found was when I was importing e-mail from my gmail account I kept getting a message that it couldn't continue, however once it was finished it worked fine. E-mails can either be imported and taken off of you gmail account or you can leave them. I like this e-mail a little better because I can now keep things in folders with gmail you have to put labels on them. I can also have all of my Google Docs or Zoho docs imported into G.ho.st. I like the idea of having a desktop that is always the same. You can also pull up your Flickr and YouTube accounts very quickly. I can see me using this on different computers because I like the idea of everything available when are where I need it. Some other features right on the desktop are Yahoo News, Google search and tips. There is a button in the bottom left hand corner instead of saying start it just say go and then you get a menu. You can have all of you RSS feeds come directly to your desktop from here. Another feature I like is if you want to go back to using your regular windows just minimize G.ho.st and you are right back where you started. I think this could be a very useful tool.

Thing #19

This was a very easy one for me. I use Google Docs alot. I use a laptop when I'm out and about and I can type up whatever I want and it's always there whenever I need it on whatever computer I am on. I use a laptop at school and a desktop at work and my work is always where I need it. I still backup because I know that you should. What's really nice is that I can send docs to family and it doesn't matter if they don't have Word 2007 or 2003 they do have Google Docs and there is no cost and they don't have to worry about where it is located at the time they need it. It's a great tool for sharing. Not only can you use docs there are also other tools like spreadsheets, presentation apps and more. I share these apps with users of the library all the time because alot of the time people can't afford to purchase Microsoft products.

Thing #18

PBwiki is a pretty cool tool. I really think it would take time and dedication to keep it up and going. Not sure how I would open it to the public. I would like to explore it more. I enjoyed adding my post to this site and I can see how it could be useful. Right now though I think I will stick with other things I have learned in 2.0

Thing #17

Wiki's are very cool. I think they would take a lot of work to keep them maintained. While looking at some of the different wikis I found some broken links. I really like the idea of book reviews on a wiki. Being able to share information about a book you read and what you liked or didn't like in just a few minutes would be great. I think it would be fun to get different people involved in reviewing books. I can also see it being a great tool for internal staff use. Share ideas, post upcoming events, keep track of documents and scheduling. Some of the wiki's I looked at had a lot of information almost information overload, other's seemed to center on certain topics and stayed with them. Like the bookclub.

Thing #16

Where are we going with Library 2.0 and Web 2.0? I like the way Michael Stephens talks about how a User-centered libraries breakdown barriers and allow users access wherever they are: home, work, commuting, school, or at the library. I like the idea of people not being forced to come into the library to get the information they need. Access should be available wherever whenever it is needed. I also like the idea of just because it's cool doesn't mean libraries should have it. They still need to evaluate what is needed by their users and try and supply those resources to them.

Chip Nilges from OCLC talks about worldcat and making it available to everyone without having to log on to the database. I use www.worldcat.org a lot and show many people what a valuable tools this is. I can't wait to see what OCLC has in store for the future.

I am really enjoying seeing how technology has changed in the 30 years I have been working in libraries. I can't wait to see what the next 30 years has waiting for us. I keep having people say that soon libraries will not be needed. I really don't think that is an issue unless libraries don't keep up with the current technology.

Thing #15

SlideShare is something I think will be very useful when I have time to fully explore the features. I found some very nice slideshow and then I found my self just looking at different things. I think I could get lost very quickly. There are some very talented people out there. I can see using this to teach computer classes and sharing resources for different meetings. This is my Slideshare account hope someone finds it as interesting as I did.

Thing #14

OK, I've taken a break now I have to get finished with the rest of the things. I just watched the Delicious video and checkout some different things. I even have a Delicious account set up. Now I make myself use it. I think it will be a great site for me because I use so many different computers I will have all of my bookmarks in one place. Thing #14 forced me to go to my Delicious account and see what I have there, not much. So my goal is to go to all of the different computers I use and transfer the bookmarks and favorites to my Delicious account.
